Our own check
Our checks can reach grok.com and api.x.ai (792 ms).
We send an unauthenticated request to the service every five minutes. A sign-in or bot-protection reply still proves it is answering.

How Grok can fail
xAI's status page cannot be read by a script, so this verdict rests on our own checks. Every five minutes we test both grok.com and the developer API at api.x.ai, and either one failing can count. We say "down" only after about fifteen minutes of consecutive failures.
Because there is no official feed to compare against, this page is more likely than most to be wrong in the first minutes of a real fault, and it says so on the page.
- grok.com: Our check of the Grok website. Counts towards the verdict.
- api.x.ai: Our check of the developer API. Also counts towards the verdict.
API errors and what they mean
If you use the xAI API, these are the errors xAI documents.
- 400: The request contains invalid data. Check its structure and the URL path.
- 401: Authentication failed or is missing. Send your API key as a Bearer token, and create a new key in the xAI Console if needed.
- 403: You do not have permission for the resource. xAI suggests asking your team administrator.
- 404: The resource does not exist. Check the endpoint against the API reference.
- 405: The HTTP method is not supported for that endpoint.
- 415: The content type of the request is not accepted.
- 422: A field in the request has an invalid format or value.
- 429: You are sending requests too fast. Slow down or raise your rate limit in the xAI Console.

If Grok is not working for you
Check the two signals above first. When both look healthy, try a different device or network, sign out and back in, and switch off any VPN or browser extensions. Hitting a usage limit can look like an outage, so check for a message about limits. Our guide has the full checklist, and another explains why a service can be up but broken for you.
